Warner Bros. Hosts the GLAAD Media Institute

Changing the Narrative  / Posted on April 4, 2019

As an extension of the Studio’s commitment to inclusion and sponsorship of GLAAD, we hosted two GLAAD Media Institute workshops designed to enable people to build core skills and techniques that effectuate positive cultural change for the advancement of LGBTQ acceptance. Creative executives from various Warner Bros. businesses and members from OUT @ WB, an employee-led Business Resource Group, engaged in dialogue that addressed creating LGBTQ-inclusive content and characters. In another workshop, external social media activists and influencers from the LGBTQ community harnessed their skills to utilize their platforms to advocate for LGBTQ acceptance.

The Media Institute was held the same day as the 30th Annual GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles, which recognize and honor media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) community and the issues that affect their lives. This year, DC’s “Exit Stage Left: The Snagglepuss Chronicles,” written by Mark Russell, received an award for Outstanding Comic Book. Studio properties also received nominations for their LGBTQ-inclusive content and characters: Warner Bros. Pictures’ “Crazy Rich Asians,” Warner Horizon’s “Fuller House,” Telepictures’ “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” DC’s “Batwoman” and Warner Bros. Television’s “Black Lightning” and “Supergirl.” For a complete list of nominees, click here.
